Dear Stranger,

Hi there, my name’s Jay. I’m an author and street artist.

 

For years I’ve been running around the world posting little letters on bins, bus shelters, electric boxes, anywhere tape will stick, hoping to strike a fire in a stranger’s eye. Maybe we’ve already met through one. If we have, hello, fellow wild child.

This project is called Dear Stranger. It began in Melbourne, Australia, during the pandemic. I started posting letters to clear a stranger’s storm, and my own, for a split second in a locked-down world. I haven’t stopped since.

Since then, I’ve posted over seven thousand handwritten letters across Europe, Ireland, New York, Egypt, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and the UK. Strangers from around the world have written back, sending words warm enough to thaw the coldest hearts. Some have helped translate the letters into Spanish, Polish, Arabic, Albanian, German, and French, so the fire could reach people in their own language. Welcome aboard wildchild.
