Dear Stranger,
Hi there, my name’s Jay. Welcome to Dear Stranger Press. I’m an author/street artist. I’ve been running around the world for years now, posting little letters on trash cans, bus shelters, electric boxes, anywhere that allows sellotape to stick, hoping to strike a fire in a stranger’s eye. Maybe we have already met via a letter. If we have, hello fellow wild child.
This letter project is called Dear Stranger and it all began in a far off land called Australia. Melbourne. I started posting these letters four years ago, to try and clear a stranger’s storm (and my own) for a split second during the pandemic, and I’ve not stopped since. It’s crazy to think how far this project has come since the dark days of the lockdown.
Somehow, since then, I’ve managed to post five thousand letters across half of Europe, New York, and the majority of the UK. Thousands of strangers have motivated me to keep on through rain, sun, and snow, by sending me words warm enough to melt the coldest of hearts. Lovely strangers from all over the world have taken the time out of their days to help translate my letters into Spanish, Polish, Albanian, German, and French, so my letters could touch the people’s fire in their native tongue.
